ST vs EFUNDS : SUNTAN CUP'04

This match report was written by me after we lost to Efunds in Suntan Cup'04.

The 14th day of March, Ramjas sports ground, it was a day of scorching heat, even in
the month of March. It is not just a cricket match, it is a clash of TITANS with Efunds
having an upper hand ,being winner of the last two matches played between them.

ST Micro won the toss and elected to bat first.ST Micro not started off well by loosing Das in the second over of the match.Then Rajesh Narwal joined Bipin and both started playing freely and reached around 35 in just 5 overs, but Bipin, while trying to play too far away from the body was clean bowled And in the next over Bharat also could not do much to his form and was out LBW. Their captain Vij followed them soon and the score card read 50/4 in just 8 overs.

Rajesh was then joined in by Mudit on the crease. Both played pretty sensibly and started building the innings. They both were looking invincible. They took the score past 100 mark in 18th over.But Mudit while trying to heave the ball over the in-field gave an easy catch ,but not before making a well compiled 25. Rajesh played beautifully for his 53 runs and was stumped while trying to accelerate the scoring rate. ST lost wickets at regular intervals and could manage only 143 runs in their stipulated quota of 25 Overs with the loss of 9 wkts. It was a good performance from Efunds in the field.

ST Micro had a mammoth task, with their bowling attack not too penetrating and Efunds having excellent batting lineup. Rajesh Jeswani bowled a brilliant first spell but didn't get a good support from Prashant at the other end. But the spirit of the team was very high and ST got the first wicket as a run out with Sudip affecting it from backward point. Then Rajesh Narwal and Sudip bowled excellent spells in tendem and Efunds started looking panicky. They lost 5 quick wickets with two of them run outs and Rajesh taking other two.At that time ,score card read 65/6 in 15 overs.But then Efunds started batting sensibly and they were able to take advantage of the fifth bowler.Vivek hans gave away 18 in one over and then Ved gave 8 precious runs in next. ST captain then had no choice but to give the ball to his main line bowlers .They were able to take two wickets ,one each from Sudip and Rajesh Narwal.But the runs were flowing from their bats and Efunds needing just 10 runs from 2 overs. But not having any overs left from their front line bowlers really put them off and Efunds was able to make required runs with 2 deliveries and 2 wickets left.

Nevertheless, It was a great game of cricket , played with lot of intensity and passion. Both the teams gave their best and the better team ,on the day, won. Good thing for ST Micro was that they played very well as a team and their fielding was excellent.
